Top USC target Jamyest Williams closes in on decision
Defensive back Jamyest Williams of Loganville, Ga., has been keeping in touch with the coaches at each of his top five schools and has not picked out a favorite at this point.
Williams’ top five includes South Carolina, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State and Tennessee.
He said he keeps in touch with USC head coach Will Muschamp and Clemson defensive backs coach Mike Reed all the time. He visited both schools for their social events late last month.
Williams also said he is going to take his official visits “very, very soon” and hopes to have his decision made “very soon.” He has said a silent commitment will come first.
That being said, Williams does not have a timetable for when he will publicly announce his decision and wants to focus on his senior season at Grayson High School.
“I have my school team and right now, it’s just about making sure it’s the right fit,” Williams said.
Butler eyes mid-season decision
Defensive end Matthew Butler of Garner, N.C., said South Carolina is “neck and neck” with the other three schools in his top four right now. Along with South Carolina, Butler has Duke, NC State and Tennessee in his top four and said a lot of factors will come into play when he makes his decision.
“I’m going to make my decision based on a lot of factors,” Butler said. “Most are unexplainable, but you know education, football, comfort from my family, comfort from me, coaching staff, all that type of stuff.”
The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Butler has strong, positive feelings for each of his top four schools and said his decision will ultimately come down to small details.
“The thing is I’m really comfortable making any four of those decisions,” Butler said. “It’s going to be the little things, small factors that are going to tie into the decision. It’s very neck and neck but those are the types of things I’m going to be looking at when I choose a school.”
To focus on fall practice, Butler has finished making college visits for the summer. He plans to make his official visits sometime this fall but does not want to rush his decision. He expects to have his decision by October.
