South Carolina’s Aliyah Boston a unanimous pick for AP All-America team
South Carolina’s Aliyah Boston picked up another national honor on Wednesday.
The junior was a unanimous selection to the first team Associated Press All-American women’s basketball team. It was her second straight first-team selection.
Boston was joined on the team by Kentucky’s Rhyne Howard, Iowa’s Caitlin Clark, Baylor’s NaLyssa Smith, Michigan’s Naz Hillmon and Stanford’s Haley Jones. Hillmon and Jones tied for the fifth spot.
It was Howard’s third first-team AP All-American selection. Boston can join that exclusive club next year.
USC senior Destanni Henderson and junior Zia Cooke were AP All-America honorable mention selections.
Boston has been the best player for the top-ranked Gamecocks squad. She is averaging 16.8 points, 12 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game. The Southeastern Conference Player of the Year broke Sylvia Fowles’ conference record for double-doubles and has 24 straight going into the NCAA tournament.
Boston also is a finalist for Naismith and Wooden player of the year awards.
South Carolina will begin the NCAA tournament at home on Friday against Howard or Incarnate Word at 2 p.m.
