President Obama’s NCAA bracket is locked in: No. 1 South Carolina for the win
President Barack Obama is going with the Gamecocks to win it all.
The former U.S. president released his annual NCAA March Madness brackets Thursday, unveiling his picks for the national champion in men’s and women’s basketball. He picked top overall seed South Carolina to take the women’s tournament.
Obama picked South Carolina to beat Stanford in the national championship game, with his Final Four consisting of two No. 1 seeds (South Carolina, Stanford) and No. 2 seeds Baylor and UConn.
His picks have USC winning a Sweet 16 matchup against the North Carolina Tar Heels in Greensboro with an Elite Eight game victory Iowa State. The Final Four game for USC, in Obama’s bracket, is against Baylor.
Obama picked Gonzaga to win on the men’s side.
South Carolina women’s basketball (29-2) has held onto the No. 1 ranking in the AP poll all season, winning the SEC regular-season tournament before narrowly losing in the SEC tournament championship to Kentucky on March 6.
Dawn Staley’s Gamecocks begin the NCAA tournament with a first-round game against 16-seed Howard on Friday at 2 p.m. in Colonial Life Arena. They’re seeking their second straight trip to the Final Four and their second national championship under Staley.
South Carolina will host its first two rounds of the NCAA tournament in Columbia before moving to the Greensboro Regional from March 25-27. The Gamecocks’ regional field also features No. 2-seed Iowa, No. 3 Iowa State and No. 4 Arizona.
Final Four games will be held April 1 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with the national championship following on April 3.
