Big contract bonus coming for Dawn Staley after latest national championship

South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley will cash in with more than $650,000 in bonuses after leading the school to the national championship.

The Gamecocks defeated UConn 64-49 on Sunday at the Target Center for the second women’s basketball title in program history. USC won it all in 2017 as well with Staley at the helm.

Staley earned $2.9 million this year, with a base salary of $1,000,000 and $1,900,000 guaranteed in outside compensation.

Based on the terms of Staley’s contract extension signed in October, she will collect a bonus of $500,000 for winning the national championship.

Other bonuses Staley earned this season include:

$15,000 for winning 11 or more SEC regular season games in the 16-game format.

$75,000 for SEC regular season championship.

$25,000 for being named the SEC Coach of the Year by the AP or SEC coaches

$25,000 for being named the National Coach of the Year by the AP, or Naismith, or both.

$15,000 for finishing in the Top 25 in the final poll of the AP or Coaches Poll, or both.
