The South Carolina women’s basketball team was picked to win the Southeastern Conference by the league’s coaches, the SEC announced on Wednesday.

The Gamecocks finished the 2021-22 season 35-2, and went 15-1 in regular season conference games. The team has finished first in the conference two of the last three seasons.

Dawn Staley led the team to its first SEC regular season title in 2014. Since then, USC hasn’t finished the regular season lower than second place.

SEC coaches also picked Aliyah Boston to win conference Player of the Year, and placed Boston and Zia Cooke on the Preseason All-SEC First Team. Fifth-year senior forward Victaria Saxton was named to the second team.

South Carolina opens the season as the No. 1 team in the nation coming off last season’s national championship win over UConn.
