The South Carolina women’s basketball team declared “DNA” as its theme for the 2022-23 season. The acronym stands for dreams, nets and assets.

The Gamecocks posted a highlight video Monday on Twitter with “Freedom” by Beyoncé as part of the theme’s introduction.

The team did its “Gamecock Walk” in Colonial Life Arena ahead of an exhibition game against Benedict. Some of South Carolina’s players and coaches wore short-sleeved hoodies with the letters DNA on them.

“DNA” is intended to represent the Gamecocks’ status as a powerhouse, and also encompass the team’s presence in the Name, Image and Likeness space, according to a press release.

The Gamecocks enter the 2022-23 campaign as the top-ranked team in the country, a spot the USC women never lost last season.

Staley has implemented themes for South Carolina since the 2012-13 season. “Net Worth” was last season’s theme, one carried through a national championship run.

No. 1 South Carolina returns four of its five starters from last season, including national player of the year Aliyah Boston and all-conference performer Zia Cooke. USC opens its season on Nov. 7 against East Tennessee State.
