Did you see that? South Carolina’s Ashlyn Watkins dunks in WBB win over Clemson

In the closing moments of No. 1 South Carolina’s 85-31 road win against Clemson, Ashlyn Watkins got a steal at halfcourt and was off to the races.

The freshman forward went up with one hand and slammed the ball home at Littlejohn Coliseum for the first dunk in South Carolina women’s basketball history.

The feat brought her teammates on the Gamecocks bench to their feet in celebration.

“I just stole the ball. Every time I have a fast break I just look around to see if I have the opportunity, and I had the opportunity,” Watkins told the ACC Network broadcast.

Watkins won the McDonald’s All-American Dunk Contest in her senior year of high school. Her dunking ability has created buzz since her middle school days at Cardinal Newman in Columbia.

Now that she’s in college, how often does she dunk in practice?

“Any chance that I get,” she told the broadcasters.

Watkins played 16 minutes in Thursday’s win and finished with 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting. She added five rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
