‘Bang Bang!!!!!’ LeBron James shouts out Aliyah Boston’s late-game WNBA heroics
South Carolina basketball legend Aliyah Boston has been a joy to watch in her WNBA debut season. Just ask LeBron James.
The No. 1 overall draft pick had 23 points and 9 rebounds for the Indiana Fever om Wednesday against the New York Liberty, including a last-second 3-pointer to send the game to overtime. It was the second triple of her WNBA career, tying the total number of 3-point shots she made behind the arc during her final season as a Gamecock.
James shouted out Boston’s performance by tweeting about her shot to tie the game.
“Bang Bang!!!!! Aliyah Boston trey ball to send it to OT!!! Hell of a comeback,” the NBA great said in a tweet.
Despite Boston’s heroics, the Fever ceded the game to New York. The Liberty, which had blown their 18-point fourth-quarter lead, won 95-87. Indiana, now 5-15, has lost its last eight contests.
It wasn’t the first time James put out a Gamecocks women’s basketball-related tweet. He congratulated coach Dawn Staley on the program’s 2017 national championship via Twitter and irked South Carolina fans with another post in 2020 that touted a lineup of the best Tennessee women’s basketball in program history over USC’s all-time squad as determined by SEC Network.
Boston along with former USC players A’ja Wilson and Allisha Gray will be at the WBNA All-Star Game on Saturday in Las Vegas. As a captain, Wilson — NCAA champion, WNBA champion and league MVP — drafted Boston and Gray to her team.
