Gamecocks class of 2024 signee Adhel Tac will enroll at South Carolina this week, a team spokesperson confirmed to The State on Wednesday.

Tac arrived in Columbia on Wednesday evening and ahead of Monday’s start to classes, coach Dawn Staley announced in a press release.

Tac — the No. 26 overall recruit and No. 2 post player in the class of 2024 — announced via X (formerly Twitter) on Dec. 2 that her high school career had come to an end after she dislocated her kneecap and tore her medial patellofemoral ligament.

The team spokesperson declined to confirm a specific reason for Tac’s early enrollment, but her situation is likely similar to Laeticia Amihere’s in 2019. She enrolled at South Carolina that January after tearing her ACL in 2018. Amihere did not play for the Gamecocks until the following season, but instead underwent treatment for the injury in Columbia.

“I just want to thank everyone who has supported me this far, and all who will continue to do so,” Tac wrote on X. “As hard as this is I will get through it because I know God has a plan and He isn’t done with me yet. This ain’t good bye or the end of my journey , it’s only the beginning of a new chapter. James 1:2-4”

After Tac’s December announcement, coach Dawn Staley called Tac’s injury “season ending, but not career threatening.”

“She obviously wanted to play her senior year and is unable to do that,” Staley said in December. “But, we’ll get her here, we’ll get her right. She’ll be suiting up for us, and she’ll be playing for us. But she’s such a sweetheart. You hate for something to happen to the good ones. She’s one of the good ones. Great teammate, vocal leader, and she’s still all of those things. Unfortunately she’s got to be an assistant coach (now).”

When asked in December then whether Tac would enroll early at South Carolina, Staley said, “Good question. Maybe, maybe not. We’ve done it before, so we’re prepared for it.”

Tac also missed the majority of her junior season at South Grand Prairie in Texas after fracturing her right foot in December 2022.

She is part of a three-person recruiting class, as of the early signing period, which includes No. 12 overall prospect Maddy McDaniel (PG) and No. 2 overall recruit Joyce Edwards (F).
