Two South Carolina WBB players on 2024 Wooden Award midseason watch list
Two Gamecocks were named to the 2024 John R. Wooden Award Midseason Watch List: guard Te-Hina Paopao and center Kamilla Cardoso.
South Carolina is one of five schools with two players on the top-25 list, along with UConn, UCLA, Ohio State and Virginia Tech. LSU, which USC will face in Baton Rouge on Jan. 25, has three players on the list: Aneesah Morrow, Angel Reese and Mikaylah Williams.
Paopao, who transferred to South Carolina from Oregon, has been a major contributor for the Gamecocks this season. She is one of the nation’s leading perimeter shooters, making 55.2% of her 3-point attempts, which ranks second in the NCAA. Coach Dawn Staley has praised the guard’s leadership skills and her calming presence on the court.
Cardoso averages 13.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game. She has recorded eight double-doubles in 14 contests this season.
The winner of the 2024 John R. Wooden Award for the nation’s best player will be presented following the NCAA Tournament in April. The Wooden Award All-American Team is announced before the Elite Eight round of the tournament.
