South Carolina’s Kamilla Cardoso, Te-Hina Paopao pick up AP All-American honors

South Carolina’s Kamilla Cardoso and Te-Hina Paopao earned All-American honors Wednesday by The Associated Press.

The 6-foot-7 Cardoso was selected to the second team for the first time in her career. Paopao earned an honorable mention from The AP.

Cardoso heads into the NCAA Tournament averaging a team-high 14 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. In the final second of the SEC Tournament semifinal game, Cardoso banked in her first career 3-pointer to lift USC over Tennessee and advance to the title game.

Paopao led the SEC in 3-point field goal percentage this season, and that 47.1% long-range accuracy ranked third in the nation. Against ranked opponents, Paopao is the team’s top scorer at 14.6 points per game. She’s second on USC with 4.7 assists per game.

Also this week, Cardoso was named a first-team All-American by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and earned second-team honors from The Sporting News. Paopao was selected to the USBWA’s All-American second team.

South Carolina’s March Madness for 2024 journey begins Friday versus the winner of Presbyterian and Sacred Heart at 2 p.m. in Colonial Life Arena. Cardoso will miss the first-round game and return for the second round Sunday as she serves a suspension for fighting in the SEC Championship game against LSU on March 10.
