South Carolina’s Kamilla Cardoso reveals WNBA decision

South Carolina center Kamilla Cardoso has declared for the 2024 WNBA Draft, she announced via her social media accounts Monday.

In her statement, Cardoso thanked God, her teammates, coaches, USC women’s basketball fans and her family for the sacrifices she made so she could move from Brazil to the United States at the 14 years old in pursuit of a basketball career.

“Thank you to everyone who has been a part of my journey for far,” she said in her post. “I am excited for what the future holds and can’t wait to see where this next chapter takes me.”

She added in the caption: “Still have unfinished business,” with a devil emoji, a nod to South Carolina’s upcoming trip to Cleveland.

Monday was the last day to declare for the WNBA Draft unless a player was in the Elite Eight. In that case, the player has 48 hours after the conclusion of their season. ESPN and CBS Sports mock drafts have Cardoso going as the fourth overall pick to the Los Angeles Sparks.

Cardoso won the Most Outstanding Player in the Albany 1 Regional Sunday after helping the Gamecocks advance to their fourth straight NCAA Final Four. She leads USC in scoring (14.1 PPG) and rebounds (9.4 RPG).

The 6-foot-7 center transferred to South Carolina from Syracuse in 2021. Since then, Cardoso has won the SEC’s Sixth Woman of the Year Award (2023), been named an All-American by the Associated Press and United States Basketball Writers Association (2024) and chosen as a finalist for the Naismith Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards (2024).
