Welcome home celebration for national champion Gamecocks
South Carolina fans back home will have a chance to greet the national champion women’s basketball team on Monday.
A celebration will be held inside Colonial Life Arena, with doors opening at 12:30 p.m. and an event starting no earlier than 2 p.m..
The celebration will be broadcast on SEC Network and appear on top of this story.
Members of the team and coach Dawn Staley are expected to speak during the celebration, which also takes place during a partial solar eclipse.
Fans should enter the arena via the main entrance and can sit in Sections 101-104 and 115-118. Selected concessions stands will be open. A replay of the game will show on the videoboard before to the team’s arrival, and the team DJ will be on hand
Fans can park for free in Lots A and B in front of the arena. With classes in session, space may be tight..
The Gamecocks completed a 38-0 season on Sunday in Cleveland by defeating Iowa 87-75 to win the national championship. It was USC’s third national title. The Gamecocks became the first team since 2016 to complete an undefeated season.
A parade is expected from the city of Columbia sometime in the coming weeks, but there was no official word as of Sunday night as to when that could take place.
