Wilson’s amazing resume

A’ja Wilson needs no introduction to South Carolina fans or women’s basketball followers in general.

She played a crucial role in helping Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks become a perennial national title contender and helped bring home the program’s first championship in 2017.

A Hopkins native who played high school ball at Heathwood Hall, Wilson was the South Carolina program’s first-ever No. 1 recruit signee. Wilson had an illustrious career with the Gamecocks: She was a four-time All-American, three-time SEC Player of the Year, two-time SEC Defensive Player of the Year, AP Player of the Year winner, a Wooden Award winner and Naismith Award winner.

Wilson leads the South Carolina women’s basketball program with 2,389 total points and holds 22 program records.

She was drafted by the Las Vegas Aces with No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft and hasn’t skipped a beat in her professional career.

Wilson has been named an all-star in six of her seven season as a pro, was named the Rookie of the Year in 2018, is a three-time MVP, two-time Defensive Player of the Year and has helped the Aces win the WNBA championship in 2022 and 2023.

A stature was erected in Wilson’s honor outside of Colonial Life Arena in January 2021.

Wilson also has four gold medals to her name, two with the U.S. women’s basketball team in the Tokyo and Paris Olympic games and two with the team in the Spain and Australian World Cup.
