Two former Gamecocks headline the 2025 South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame Class that was announced Wednesday.

Former South Carolina baseball and women’s basketball greats Landon Powell and Shannon Johnson are joined the likes of former NFL star Richard Seymour and international soccer star Clint Dempsey.

The 10-member class will be enshrined in a ceremony at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center on May 19.

Powell helped the Gamecocks make it to Omaha three times during his playing days from 2001-2004. He was an All-American in 2004 and a two-time All-SEC player who hit 44 home runs in his career at South Carolina. In 2010, Powell was named to the College World Series Legends Team.

Powell is currently the head baseball coach at North Greenville University. Through 10 years with the Trailblazers he holds a 389-130-1 record including a Division II national championship win in 2022.

Johnson is one of the five players in the history of the South Carolina women’s basketball program to have their jersey retired. She earned All-American honors in her senior year and was a three-time first-team all-SEC member (from 1994-96).

The Hartsville native is still the lone player in program history to average 20 or more points a game over three straight seasons.

Johnson was a five-time WNBA All-Star and coached at Coker University from 2015-2020.
