MiLaysia Fulwiley officially announced her plans to leave South Carolina and enter the transfer portal in a statement on social media Thursday.

“I want to begin by thanking my hometown of Columbia, SC,” Fulwiley said in an Instagram post. “Without my village, I wouldn’t be where I am today, chasing my dreams. Thank you to Coach Staley, the entire South Carolina staff, and my teammates for the unforgettable memories we’ve created together. Most importantly, thank you to the FAMS for embracing me and supporting me over the past two years.

“After thoughtful consideration, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal. I’m excited for what’s next and grateful for all the continued love and support.”

The announcement comes nearly a week after it was reported that she planned to leave the Gamecocks women’s basketball team. Fulwiley has officially been in the transfer portal with a “do not contact” tag since Monday, according to On3’s Talia Goodman. The tag generally indicates a player already has their next destination in mind, though that’s not always the case.

Fulwiley played in 76 games across those two seasons with the Gamecocks and helped win a national title during her freshman season last year. She come off the bench at USC and provided a spark, starting just three games, and was named the SEC’s 6th Woman of the Year this past season.

She averaged 11.8 points per game for USC this season, making her second on the team in scoring. The Columbia native was a five-star recruit out of Keenan High School and was often referred to as a “generational talent” by South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley.

Fulwiley has not said publicly why she’s leaving the Gamecocks It is possible that Fulwliey, who was ninth on the team with an average of 18.9 minutes per game, could be on her way out in search of more playing time and an expanded role.

Fulwiley and forward Sakima Walker are the lone Gamecocks to enter the transfer portal. South Carolina officially signed guard Ta’Niya Latson, the nation’s leading scorer this past season, from the portal on Wednesday.
