Former Gamecock Tiffany Davis lands high school basketball coaching job
A former South Carolina women’s basketball player has a new coaching job.
Former Gamecock Tiffany Davis will be the new varsity girls basketball coach at Abington Friends School in Pennsylvania, the school announced on social media.
Davis was a fan favorite during her time at USC. A 5-foot-7 guard from Houston, Texas, she played five seasons for the Gamecocks from 2012-17 and was part of coach Dawn Staley’s first national championship team in 2017.
Davis dealt with injuries throughout her South Carolina career, including season-ending knee injuries during her freshman and junior years in Columbia.
But she was named a team captain as a redshirt senior and appeared in 19 games (including three NCAA Tournament games) for USC’s first national title team.
Davis, 31, now takes over a high school girls basketball program in one of the nation’s hoops hotbeds. Abington Friends School is located in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, about 10 miles north of Philadelphia (also Staley’s hometown).
A number of Staley’s former South Carolina players (especially guards) have gotten into high school or college coaching. Former USC guard Olivia Gaines is the women’s head coach at Allen University in Columbia and went 18-9 in her first season.
Khadijah Sessions, one of Davis’ former teammates, is currently working on Staley’s South Carolina staff as an assistant coach and has drawn rave reviews from players. Before joining USC, she’d worked as a basketball trainer and high school assistant.
