South Carolina’s Chloe Kitts spotted in leg brace. Here’s what we know
One of the stars of the South Carolina women’s basketball team appears to be dealing with an injury ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Senior forward Chloe Kitts was seen with crutches and a full leg brace on her right leg in the crowd Sunday at South Carolina’s home volleyball game against Georgia.
Whatever Kitts is dealing with, she’s hoping to play through it and avoid surgery, a USC athletics source told The State. It wasn’t immediately known if Kitts was injured in practice — or if she is dealing with something chronic or not related to basketball at all.
The last time local media saw Dawn Staley’s Gamecocks practice was on Sept. 22, their first official day of preseason practices. Kitts was available and participating. South Carolina announced Tuesday Kitts would be one of three players, including Ta’Niya Latson and Joyce Edwards, to travel Birmingham to represent the Gamecocks alongside Staley at SEC Media Days next week.
Reached Monday afternoon, a South Carolina team spokesperson did not have any information regarding Kitts’ status.
Kitts is coming off her best season as a Gamecock, averaging a career-high 10.2 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. She was named the SEC Tournament’s MVP after she averaged 16.7 points and 7.7 rebounds during the Gamecocks’ run to another championship. Kitts was also named to the All-Birmingham Regional 2 team during the NCAA Tournament.
She also recorded the ninth triple-double in program history when she tallied 16 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in a win at Ole Miss late in the regular season.
Kitts is regarded as a potential first-round pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft.
South Carolina’s season begins later this month with an exhibition at home against Anderson on Oct. 24. If Kitts’ situation causes her to miss games, things could get interesting in the post for South Carolina.
The Gamecocks would have Joyce Edwards, Madina Okot, Maryam Dauda and Adhel Tac available at the forward position, with Ashlyn Watkins already announcing in July that she’s taking a year off from basketball.
