French WBB recruit spotted with Dawn Staley at South Carolina football game
A top international women’s basketball prospect was in the crowd Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium.
French recruit Alicia Tournebize was seen on the sidelines at the game with South Carolina head women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley. Tournebize is reportedly on her official visit with the Gamecocks this weekend.
The 6-foot-4 forward is believed to be the elusive French recruit Dawn Staley posted to X/Twitter about on a trip France in October. Her tweet showed only the player’s shoes, which were A’Ones (former South Carolina legend A’ja Wilson’s signature Nike sneakers).
“Currently checking out a recruit somewhere near Paris but not in Paris….and would you look at what’s on her feet!” Staley said in the soecial media post.
Staley also made a tease about a French recruit, believed to be Tournebize, earlier this month in a press conference.
South Carolina announced on Nov. 3 that it will be opening its 2025-26 season in the Oui Play event in Paris. That night after the Gamecocks’ season opener against Grand Canyon, Staley said she hoped “we have a French player on our roster to take home.”
Tournebize currently plays professionally in the Tango Bourges Basket of the EuroLeague Women in France. She’s averaged 2.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and just under one assists in six games this season.
She averaged nearly a double-double (12.1 points and 8.9 rebounds) in the seven games at 2025 FIBA U18 Women’s EuroBasket for the French national team. Tournebize averaged 3.3 points and 1.8 rebounds per game in the 2024 FIBA U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup.
Tournebize can also dunk.
