2 Gamecock women’s basketball alums set to play in Unrivaled. Game, TV details
The WNBA season may be over but South Carolina fans still have another way to see some of their favorite Gamecock alums play professionally starting this week.
Unrivaled, a 3 vs 3 league co-founded by women’s hoops stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, kicked off its second season of play on Monday. The league expanded from six to eight teams ahead of the 2026 season.
Former South Carolina women’s basketball superstars Aliyah Boston and Allisha Gray are among the league’s 54 players. Boston will play for the Phantom Basketball Club and Gray will play for the Mist Basketball Club.
What is the Unrivaled women’s basketball league?
Unrivaled played its first season in 2025.
In its inaugural season, Unrivaled had just six clubs: Laces, Lunar Owls, Mist, Phantom, Rose and Vinyl. In September 2024, Unrivaled announced the addition of the Breeze and Hive basketball clubs. The league will also return its 30-player, 1-on-1 tournament in 2026.
Athletes competing in Unrivaled have equity in the league and reportedly paid its players an average salary of $220,000 last season. No player made less than six figures last season and the average salary is expected to increase in 2026, per Front Office Sports.
In 2024, the league signed a six-year $100 million media deal with TNT to broadcast games. Games scheduled on Fridays and Mondays will air on TNT, truTV and HBO Max. Games scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays will air on truTV and HBO Max.
South Carolina coach Dawn Staley one of many who’s invested
South Carolina head women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley is one of the many high-profile celebrities and athletes who have invested in Unrivaled.
“I think it’s a great time, because we’re in a great place where women’s basketball is wanted,” Staley said last year. “We’re in demand. You want more and more and more. I think it’s gonna be a success. I would have supported without monetarily supporting it, just because I’m a fan and enthusiast of women’s basketball.”
Games feature three seven-minute quarters and an untimed fourth quarter highlighted by a “winning score” the teams have to reach for a victory. That target is unique to each game and is set by taking the leading team’s score and adding 11 points. The first team to that mark wins — similar to an Elam Ending.
The Gamecocks to watch
Gray was one of the better Unrivaled performers last year. She averaged 19.4 points per game for the Lunar Owls BC, good for No. 6 in the league.
This year, Gray will team up with Arike Ogunbowale, Veronica Burton, Li Yueru, Alanna Smith and Breanna Stewart for Mist BC.
Gray is coming off one of the best years of her professional career. She averaged a career-high 18.4 points per game for the WNBA’s Atalanta Dream in 2025. Gray was an All-WNBA First Team selection for the first time in her career and was an MVP finalist. She also earned her third-straight all-star honor.
Boston averaged 5.9 points and 5.4 rebounds in 9.2 minutes per game last year with Vinyl BC. She helped take the Vinyl to the league championship where they ultimately lost to Rose BC.
This year Boston will team up with Dana Evans, Kelsey Plum, Satou Sabally, Natasha Cloud, Tiffany Hayes and Kiki Iriafen for Phantom BC.
Boston had a terrific 2025 season in the WNBA. She finished her third year in the league with a career-high 15 points per game. Boston, who plays for the Indiana Fever, earned All WNBA Second Team and All WNBA Second Team Defense nods for the first time in her career.
South Carolina fans could also see Laeticia Amihere play for Unrivaled in 2026. The former Gamecock is part of the league’s reserve pool. Amihere will be available if a team has an injured player throughout the season.
