Why Agot Makeer, Ta’Niya Latson didn’t play in 2nd half of Gamecocks win over Auburn
South Carolina got a 30-point win over Auburn on Thursday night, but the Gamecocks did so without two starters for much of the game.
USC lost freshman wing Agot Makeer just four minutes in the game. Star guard Ta’Niya Latson didn’t play for the entirety of the second half.
What’s up with Agot Makeer?
Makeer subbed out at the 6:18 mark of the first half and didn’t return to the bench until the second quarter.
When Makeer came back to South Carolina’s bench, she was walking slowly and appeared to be wearing what looked like a heating pad wrapped around her waist/upper hip area.
She did not play for the remainder of the game. Staley did not have a specific update on Makeer after the game.
“She’s in pain,” Staley said. “That’s a bummer, but we’ll get her back home and get it checked out.”
Makeer finished with three points and one rebound.
What about Ta’Niya Latson?
Latson played her normal amount of minutes in the first half but was absent for the entire second half.
Staley didn’t provide specifics on what ailed Latson after the game.
“She’s not feeling well either, so we just decided to hold her out,” Staley said.
Latson scored five points and recorded two rebounds in her 16 first-half minutes Thursday.
Latson missed the first three games of SEC play with an ankle injury, but she didn’t show any signs of that bothering her in the game against Auburn.
