A former South Carolina women’s basketball player is getting a shot in a new professional league.

LeLe Grissett is on the inaugural roster for the Charlotte Crown of the Upshot basketball League.

Upshot is a 5-on-5 professional league that starts May 15. The league has women’s basketball legends Tamika Catching, Cheryl Miller and Ann Meyers Drysdale as investors and advisors.

The league will have four teams to start; the Charlotte Crown, Savannah Steel, Jacksonville Waves and Greensboro Groove. In 2027, the league plans to add expansion teams in Baltimore and Nashville.

The Crown will play in Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte but will open their season against Jacksonville. Each team will play 34 games with the season ending in August. All games will be streamed on the league’s Youtube page.

Grissett played five seasons (2018-22) for Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks. She was a member of South Carolina’s 2022 national title team.

Grissett provided a boost off the bench for South Carolina. In her career, the 6-foot-2 guard started seven of the 150 games she played. Grissett averaged 4.8 points and 3.6 rebounds in 14.6 minutes per game during her career. SHe finished her career No. 1 in the program’s record book for career games played (150) and SEC games played (77). She’s now No. 3 in games played.

Grissett has played in a few different places overseas since leaving the Gamecocks.
