South Carolina WBB freshman Kelsi Andrews adds another gold medal
Another South Carolina women’s basketball player has added a gold medal to their collection.
Incoming freshman forward Kelsi Andrews helped the U.S. National Team defeat Canada 90-72 late Monday night to win the 2026 FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup in Irapuato, Mexico.
This is Andrews’ third gold medal with USA Basketball. The previous two came at the 2024 FIBA U17 World Cup and the 2023 FIBA U16 AmeriCup.
Andrews averaged 6.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game during the USA’s run to a gold medal this year. The U.S. National Team dominated the group phase and beat Argentina, Mexico and Paraguay by an average of 83 points. Andrews’ best game of the group stage came when she scored six points and tallied three rebounds and four assists against Mexico.
The Americans beat Venezuela 104-51 in the semifinals match. Andrews put on a show in that victory with a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double. USA trailed Canada initially in the gold medal game on Monday night but eventually regained the lead. Andrews scored three points to help secure the championship.
Andrews is the second Gamecock to win a gold medal this summer. Rising junior star Joyce Edwards won her fourth gold medal at the 2026 Women’s FIBA 3x3 World Cup in Poland earlier this month.
