Pat Summitt’s death: The Gamecocks react
Pat Summitt, the winningest coach in Division I college basketball history who uplifted the women's game from obscurity to national prominence during her 38-year career at Tennessee, died Tuesday morning. She was 64.
“I’m deeply saddened by what has happened to Pat Summitt,” USC head coach Dawn Staley said. “I’ve been a fan of hers and the way she so passionately and profoundly led our game. I can’t think of anyone whose footsteps I would want to follow other than hers. She has passed the torch to all who coach; it’s now our turn to make her proud.”
A sad day in my life and the entire WBB community-Pat Summit thank you for sharing your passion and love for the game with all of us.
