Henley ready to attack
Russell Henley is tied for 21st heading into the final day of the Masters.
There’s not much difference between that and 40th in the final standings, he believes, so the Charleston native is going to take his shots Sunday during the tournament’s final round.
“Ten-over is not going to make a huge difference,” he said after shooting even par 72 Saturday to sit at 2-under overall. “I want to finish as high as I can, so I probably need to be a little bit more aggressive if I get the chance. I am guessing tomorrow the pins are going to be pretty tough, so it’s going to be hard to be aggressive. But, if I get the chance, I’m going to try.”
Henley’s Saturday round got off to a tough start with a four putt on the first green that led to a double bogey. His explanation: “I putt, I miss; I putt, I miss; I putt, I miss; I putt, I make. That’s about it.”
He had four birdies (Nos. 2, 4, 7 and 8) and two bogeys (Nos. 9 and 18) from there. Henley’s best finish in two previous Masters was last year’s tie for 31st.
“I played pretty good,” Henley said. “I left a couple out there to be sure, but I still hit it great, felt like I made some good decisions. Couple more putts fall in on the back and I have a pretty nice round.”
Greenville’s Bill Hass also fired a 72 Saturday and sits 4-under for the tournament.
Irmo’s Dustin Johnson shot a 73 and is at 6-under. Johnson is tied for fifth place and is 10 shots off the lead of Jordan Spieth.
