On eve of RBC Heritage, Masters champ Spieth confirms he'll play Harbour Town
Apparently, Jordan Spieth's gain won't be the RBC Heritage's loss.
After his wire-to-wire victory Sunday at the Masters, Spieth confirmed he intends to play this week at Harbour Town.
"I'm planning to play Hilton Head," Spieth said. "I don't know, I'm a little tired."
If the end of that statement sounds a little ominous, the RBC Heritage announced on Twitter that Spieth had confirmed his commitment -- "Masters champ @JordanSpieth has informed us he will play in the #RBCHeritage this week!"
Zach Johnson was the last Masters champion to play the Heritage the same year, coming to Hilton Head the week after earning his green jacket in 2007.
The 47th RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing gets underway at 11 a.m. Monday when the cannon will fire and 2014 champion Matt Kuchar will hit the ceremonial first shot into Calibogue Sound.
Pro-ams are scheduled for Monday and Wednesday, and the professionals will play practice rounds on Monday and Tuesday. Tournament play begins at 7:20 a.m. Thursday.
There are nine players with South Carolina ties in this year's field, led by Greenwood native and former Clemson star Ben Martin, who finished tied for third last year.
And there are there are 10 former Heritage champions in the field, accounting for 13 of the 46 tournament titles. Two-time champion Tom Watson is playing for the second straight year after a 13-year absence.
Meanwhile, five-time champion Davis Love III is injured and not in this year's field.
