Everything to know about this week’s Korn Ferry Tour event at Woodcreek Club
The Korn Ferry Tour will be making its first stop in the Midlands this week.
The Colonial Life Charity Classic will be Thursday to Sunday at Woodcreek Club in Elgin. It’s the first time the course will be hosting the inaugural tournament.
Daily spectator information
Gates open at 6:30 a.m. each of the four rounds. The tournament is expected to finish around 5 p.m. Sunday.
There is no parking on site. Free parking is available at 501 Spears Creek Church Road (Old Verizon building), and fans will be shuttled to the course each day. Shuttle service starts at 6:30 a.m. daily.
A live concert is included with admission and will follow each of the first three rounds. The concert performers are Prettier Than Matt (Thursday), Root Doctors (Friday) and Larry Fleet & Dave Kennedy (Saturday).
Tee Times
Golfers tee off between 6:40 a.m. and 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday; then 6:40 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Ticket information
General admission tickets are $22.64 (including fees) each day.
Children ages 15 and under are admitted free with a paying adult. There is free general admission for college students (with a valid student ID). Active, retired or veteran military personnel (with a military ID) get in free along with one guest.
Are phones allowed?
Yes, phones are allowed for the tournament, but people are asked to silence them during the round. Live-streaming and flash photography are not permitted.
About Woodcreek Club
The Tom Fazio-designed course opened in 1997 and is 7,112 yards. The course has an Elgin address and is located northeast of Spears Creek Church Road. It’s undergone many renovations over the years, including a remodeled clubhouse for this year’s event.
What is the Korn Ferry Tour?
The Korn Ferry Tour, founded in 1990, is the developmental tour of the PGA Tour.
It’s been previously known as the Ben Hogan Tour (1990-92), Nike Tour (1993-99), Buy.com Tour (2000-02), Nationwide Tour (2003-12) and Web.com Tour (2012-19). The tour plays 25 events a year, capped off by a four-tournament finish called the Korn Ferry Tour Finale.
The top 20 players on the Korn Ferry Tour’s points list earn PGA Tour membership for the following season. Players can earn immediate status on the PGA Tour membership with three Korn Ferry wins in the same year.
Some of the notable Korn Ferry Tour alumni include current World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Cameron Young, Sungjae Im and Stewart Cink.
Who to watch this week
There are 156 players in the field, and that will be cut down after Friday’s second round.
Some of the players to watch this week are 18-year-old Blades Brown, Cameron Champ, Alistair Docherty, Ian Gilligan, Ian Holt, Dylan Menante and Ryo Ishikawa. Holt has two wins this season.
Players with South Carolina ties include Jonathan Byrd (five PGA Tour wins), Ben Martin, Matt NeSmith, Bryson Nimmer, Nathan Franks, Christian Salzar, Scott Stevens, Trent Phillips, Carson Young and Matt Atkins. Franks and Stevens received sponsor exemptions in the event.
Prize money
Total purse for this week’s Colonial Life Charity Classic and all Korn Ferry events is $1 million, with the winner getting $180,000.
Is the tournament on TV?
No, this year’s event won’t be televised. Only 10 of the 25 tournaments are televised each year.
