The former top-ranked golfer in the world passed the current No. 1 early in the third round of the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing. Luke Donald, who has five top-three finishes but no victories at Harbour Town Golf Links, owns a share of the lead at 7-under, along with Russell Knox and Kevin Chappell.

Jason Day, No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking, shared the 36-hole lead with Charley Hoffman and Chappell, his partner in the day’s final pairing. But Day bogeyed his first hole and double-bogeyed the par-3 third hole to fall back. He was 1 over on his round and tied for eighth through his first six holes.

Bryson DeChambeau, making his professional debut a week after he was the low amateur at Augusta National, briefly claimed a share of the lead at 6 under before the second-round leaders were on the course. However, he tumbled just as quickly with three bogeys in a four-hole stretch. He was 3-under for the tournament through 10 holes of his round Saturday.

Hoffman held the solo lead when he got as low as 8 under with birdies on each of his first two holes. However, bogeys at Nos. 5 and 6 dropped him back into a tie for fourth as of 3:15 p.m. At that point, Donald, Knox and Chappell were leading at 7 under, and Graham DeLaet, Chris Kirk and Patton Kizzire were one shot back.
