N.C. State’s McBride fires 61 for Palmetto Amateur lead

N.C. State golfer Jake McBride roared into command of the 41st Palmetto Amateur on Thursday, firing a 9-under-par 61 to establish a four-stroke advantage at the tournament’s midway point.

McBride’s 31-30 round included birdies on five of his final six holes and, coupled with his opening 69, gave him a two-round total of 10-under 130 – four shots better than Doc Redman (Raleigh/Clemson) – at Palmetto Golf Club. McBride’s sizzling performance included 10 birdies and one bogey.
