Dambaugh advances in U.S. Women’s Amateur

South Carolina junior Katelyn Dambaugh advanced in the first round of the U.S. Women’s Amateur. The Goose Creek native defeated Aurora Kan, of Boothwyn, Pa., 4 and 3 on Wednesday in the event played at Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pa.

Dambaugh will return to action on Thursday morning, going head-to-head with Kristen Gillman, of Austin, Texas. Dambaugh’s round will tee off at 8:30 a.m.

Lexington High alum Lauren Stephenson wasn’t as successful. The Alabama sophomore was defeated by Bethany Wu, of Diamond Bar, Calif., 3 and 2.

Anita Uwadia, the other player in the field with a local connection, was also defeated. The USC sophomore lost to Danielle Lemek, of Doniphan, Neb., 6 and 4.
