Sumter running back Roderick McDowell is one of the seven finalists for the 2008 South Carolina Automobile Dealers “Mr. Football” award, present by Rage Against The Haze.
McDowell, who is committed to Clemson, enters this week’s Class 4A Division I playoff against Gaffney with 1414 yards rushing and 18 scoring runs on 183 carries, 18 catches for 262 yards and three touchdown receptions and 140 total points on his senior resume.
South Pointe quarterback Stephon Gilmore, West Florence defensive end Mallicial Goodman, Northwestern running back Jarret Neely, Calhoun County quarterback David Sims, Greenwood running back D.J. Swearinger and Timberland lineman Quinton Washington are the other finalists.
Mr. Football in South Carolina will be announced at the BB&T Awards Program on Dec. 12 at the Myrtle Beach High School Performing Arts Auditorium, the night before the annual SCADA North-South All-Star Game at Doug Shaw Stadium (Myrtle Beach High).
