Carter retains ITF title
Hayley Carter of Columbia won the 18s division Saturday of the International Tennis Federation’s junior tournament at Lexington Tennis Center.
Carter trounced Kaitlin McCarthy of Cary, N.C., 6-2, 6-4. Carter was the first S.C. player to reach two S.C. ITF finals since Melanie Oudin in 2007.
Carter is the only player to win back-to-back S.C. ITF championships.
In the boys 18s singles, William Blumberg of Greenwich, Conn., defeated Henrik Wiersholm of Kirkland, Wash., 6-4, 2-6, 7-5.
In girls 18s doubles, McCarthy and Taylor Davidson (Statesville, N.C.) defeated Helen Altick (Monroe, La.) and Catherine Bellis (Atherton, Calif.), 6-4, 6-0.
In boys 18s doubles, Blumberg and Thomas Mayronne (Monroe, La.) defeated Catalin Mateas (Braintree, Mass.) and Aron Pierce (Houston), 6-3, 6-3.
