Cardinal Newman boys crack into USA Today Super 25 soccer poll

After winning the SCISA 3A state championship, Cardinal Newman moved in the USA Today/National Soccer Association Super 25 Poll, which was released Tuesday.

The Cardinals moved into the rankings at No. 12. Cardinal Newman defeated Hammond, 4-1, on Saturday behind Wyatt Millard’s three goals. It was the program’s fifth state title.

Cardinal Newman finished 18-1-1 on the season, including wins over Class 4A champion Chapin and Class 5A schools Northwestern and Fort Mill. The Cardinals’ only loss was to No. 1 Wando, and they tied Clover, which was the Class 4A runner-up in 2016.

River Bluff, which was ranked all season, dropped out of the poll after losing to Wando in the Class 5A Lower State championship.
