Kyle Kimrey leaving Dutch Fork wrestling for new opportunity
Kyle Kimrey is leaving his alma mater to become wrestling coach at White Knoll.
Kimrey spent four seasons at Dutch Fork, the last two as head coach, and coach and replaces Scott Kendrich at White Knoll.
“I’m excited about the opportunity coach Howell and Mr. Daughtrey have provided me to bring my knowledge as an educator and coach to the White Knoll High School community,” Kimrey said. “I am looking forward to getting to work. We are going to get our youth wrestling going again and build it from the ground up and our upperclassmen like Chon Porter and others are going to pave the way by example and positive leadership. I know the White Knoll area has a lot of tough kids that are ready to embrace the sport of wrestling and winning.”
White Knoll lost in the first round of the playoffs this year to Fort Dorchester.
Before coaching at Dutch Fork, Kimrey was head coach at Irmo and Battery Creek and also was an assistant at Lugoff-Elgin. He was coach in North-South All-Star wrestling matches in 2015-16.
Kimrey coached five state champions in his 10 seasons as a coach including Irmo’s TJ Dudley, who went on to an All-American career at Nebraska.
Kimrey was an accomplished wrestler at Dutch Fork, winning three state titles and was the Class 4A Wrestler of the Year during his senior season.
