Two big high school baseball tournaments set for spring break
The week of spring break holds plenty of action for baseball fans.
Two major tournaments will be played this week.
At A.C. Flora, the Forest Acres Classic begins Sunday night with its annual Home Run Derby and base running competition. The first pitch of the tournament will be thrown at 9:30 a.m. on Monday.
On Tuesday, the Blythewood Bengals will play host to the five-day S.C. Diamond Invitational.
The Forest Acres Classic is set up for an in-state vs. out-of-state final, with four area squads – Dreher, Dutch Fork, Wilson Hall and host A.C. Flora – competing against each other for a spot in Thursday’s championship game. Maryland’s DeMatha Catholic, Ohio’s Fairmont, and North Carolina’s T.C. Roberson and Voyager Academy compete in the out-of-state pool.
Monday’s games include Wilson Hall vs. Dutch Fork at 3:30 p.m. and Dreher vs. A.C. Flora at 6:30 p.m. On Wednesday, A.C. Flora takes on Dutch Fork in the 6:30 p.m. game.
This year’s Diamond Invitational includes 10 of the Palmetto State’s top teams: S.C. Baseball Coaches’ Association Class 4A No. 1 Summerville, Class 3A No. 1 Belton-Honea Path, ranked squads Greenville, River Bluff and Wren, along with White Knoll, Lexington, Socastee and Mauldin.
The games begin at noon Tuesday, with Mauldin facing Socastee. The day wraps with Blythewood facing River Bluff at 7:30 p.m. Mauldin plays Lexington at noon Thursday, and River Bluff challenges Greenville at 1:30 on Friday.
Championship games are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Forest Acres Classic, and 6 p.m. on Saturday in the Diamond Invitational.
