Lexington girls on verge of another state golf title

Lexington girls golf team is well on its way to its 12^th state championship.

The Wildcats shot a 299 and lead River Bluff by 34 shots after the first day of the Class 5A state championship at Lexington Country Club. The final round will be Tuesday.

Clemson commit and Lexington senior Gracyn Burgess shot a 1-under and is tied with Spartanburg’s Elle Johnson for the individual lead.

The Wildcats have four golfers in the top 10 – Karlee Vardas (74), Isabella Rawl (75) and Molly Hardwick (79). River Bluff’s Marley Barefoot (78) is tied for sixth.

As a team, Blythewood (338) is in fourth place.

In Class 4A, Chapin is fifth and A.C. Flora eighth. The 4A championship is being played at Barony Golf Course at Port Royal. Dreher’s Jordan Guyton, competing as an individual, shot a 76 and is tied for third.

St. James leads the championship by nine shots over Daniel. South Carolina commit and St. James golfer Smith Kanffle fired a 4-under 68 and leads the individual race.

In Class 3A, weather wiped out the first day and the tournament will be just 18 holes tomorrow.
