Hammond’s Holbrook gets Team USA Baseball invite

Hammond’s Reece Holbrook will get a chance to play with some of top young baseball talent in the country.

The rising sophomore has been invited to USA Baseball’s inaugural 16 National Team Development Program. Rosters for the program were released last week. The 16U National Team Development Program will take place at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., on Aug. 3-7.

The National Team Development program offers identified athletes an opportunity to connect with USA Baseball staff to better prepare for future national team experiences. The program includes skill development sessions, off-field education seminars and intrasquad Stars vs. Stripes games to assist in the development of the athletes as people and players.

Holbrook,the son of former South Carolina and current College of Charleston coach Chad Holbrook and battled leukemia as a child. The 5-foot-10 outfielder verbally committed to North Carolina and is ranked No. 98 in Perfect Game’s rankings for Class of 2021.

Holbrook is playing this summer for the 17U Diamond Devils program. He will also play receiver and defensive back in the fall for the Hammond football team.
