Chapin-Newberry earns spot in SC American Legion state title game

Chapin-Newberry Post 193/24 clinched a spot in the South Carolina American Legion state championship.

Post 193/24 defeated Sumter 4-1 on Thursday in a completion of a suspended game at Spirit Communications Park. The game was stopped in the fifth inning Wednesday because of rain with Chapin-Newberry leading 4-0.

Jonathan Bickley picked up the win and Wesley Livingston got the save for Post 193/24.

With the win, Chapin-Newberry advances to the championship game against Sumter Friday beginning at 4 p.m. The P-15s defeated Florence 4-2 in an elimination later Thursday evening. Sumter needs to beat Post 193/24 twice to win the championship. A second game, if necessary, would begin at 7 p.m.

Both teams are guaranteed a spot in the Southeast Regional.
