Jackson Muschamp to follow in dad’s footsteps, play for Georgia
One Hammond player has had a change of heart a day before signing Day, and it wasn’t Jordan Burch.
Quarterback Jackson Muschamp has decided to walk on at Georgia. He had committed to Colorado State a week earlier.
Muschamp’s father, South Carolina football coach Will Muschamp, was a standout at UGA and teammates with Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart. Jackson has a lot of friends and family who go to Georgia.
“When I decided not to go to Colorado State, I did it pretty quickly after I had returned from that visit,” Muschamp told 247Sports. ”I just realized what type of commitment it was to go away from home. I love the people, the coaches and Colorado State This decision had nothing to do with that. That is a special place.”
Muschamp also had offers from Wofford, Middle Tennessee State, Samford and Western Carolina. Baylor and Miami also showed interest.
247Sports ranks Muschamp as a three-star prospect and No. 72 in South Carolina for Class of 2020. As a junior, Muschamp threw for 3,062 yards and 34 touchdowns.. This season, he threw for over 2,000 yards and 29 touchdown passes.
Will Muschamp played for the Bulldogs in the early 1990s, through the 1994 season. He also walked on with the Bulldogs as a broken leg his senior year of high school limited his recruiting interest. He and Smart overlapped in one season.
