Clemson signee PJ Hall earns SC’s top basketball honor
Dorman High’s P.J. Hall earned one of the state’s top basketball honors Thursday.
The senior forward was named South Carolina Boys Gatorade Player of the Year. He is the first Dorman player to win the honor.
The 6-foot-10 Hall helped Dorman to its fourth straight Class 5A title this season and averaged 14.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.8 blocks, shooting 53.3% from the field. Hall was on varsity for three of Dorman’s four titles.
Dorman finished the season at 30-1 and was ranked No. 2 in ESPN’s Top 25. The Cavs were selected to play in GEICO Nationals.
“P.J. has got that ‘it’ factor,” Byrnes boys basketball coach Layne Fowler said. “He was so impactful on both ends of the floor this year.”
Hall is ranked No. 42 in the 2020 class by ESPN and signed with Clemson. He has maintained a 3.94 weighted GPA in the classroom.
The future Clemson Tiger donated and volunteered locally with Samaritan’s Feet, a non-profit organization that provides shoes to underprivileged children. He has also donated his time serving meals at the Spartanburg Soup Kitchen and has served as part of an elementary school literacy outreach initiative.
Hall’s sister, Thayer, was a three-time Gatorade South Carolina Volleyball Player of the Year as well as the 2017-18 Gatorade National Player of the Year. She plays volleyball at Florida.
Wilson guard and Georgia Tech signee Loyal McQueen won the Gatorade Player of the Year girls honor earlier this month.
