Former Dreher High athlete killed in utility-terrain vehicle accident

A former Dreher High School student was killed in a utility-terrain vehicle accident in Fairfield County on Friday.

Fairfield County coroner Chris Hill said Elly Gross, 18, was the driver of a UTV that was involved in a rollover crash on Fort Wagner Road in Fairfield County. The crash occurred at 2:15 p.m. on Friday.

According to Hill, Gross was ejected during the crash and pronounced dead at the scene. The South Carolina Highway Patrol and Fairfield County coroner’s office are investigating the accident.

Gross was a 2019 graduate of Dreher and played on the volleyball team. She had 45 kills and 21 assists during her senior season.

“Elly will always be remembered for her grit, determination and passion during play,” the Dreher Volleyball Twitter page posted.

Dreher Athletics also shared condolences for Gross’ family on its Twitter page “We are so saddened to hear of the loss of former Blue Devil, Elly Gross. Prayers go out to her family and friends during this difficult time.”
