Two Midlands teams win SC competitive cheerleading state championships
A year after finishing second, Chapin High School won another Class 5A competitive cheerleading championship on Saturday at Colonial Life Arena.
Chapin was one of two Midlands teams to win state championships. A.C. Flora repeated as Class 4A state champions.
For Chapin, it’s the 16th state cheer championship in school history and third since moving into Class 5A in 2018. The Eagles won four straight titles from 2016-19, two in Class 4A and two in 5A.
Chapin finished with 349 points. Lexington, the 2020 champions, finished runner-up with 322. River Bluff was third with 314.
A.C. Flora’s championship was the second in school history. The Falcons finished with 297 points. Easley was third with 283. Airport was third with 273 and Irmo fourth with 248.
Wren won the Class 3A championship and Gilbert was second. Both teams finished with 276 points but Wren won in the tiebreaker. Mid-Carolina was third with 273.
