Midlands wrestlers dominate at SCISA individual championships
Midlands wrestlers nearly made it a clean sweep at the SCISA individual championships on Saturday at the Sumter Civic Center.
Of the 14 champions crowned, 13 were from the Columbia area. SCISA state runner-up Hammond led the way with five individual winners. The Skyhawks’ Leo Addeo was one of them at 160 pounds and he also was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler.
Other Skyhawk champions were Cobin Rabon (106), Graham Friesner (126), Luke Martin (132) and PJ Davis (138).
State champion Ben Lippen and Heathwood Hall each had three state champions. The Eagles’ winners were Reese Carson (120), Zach MacDougald (152) and Price Medlin (220).
Heathwood’s Mylers Roberts won the 145-pound championship for his fifth individual championship of his career. Other Highlander winners were McIver Merritt (182) and Pierce Avery (195).
Cardinal Newman’s Jason Wagner won the 113-pound championship and AJ Reyes was the winner at 170 pounds.
Greenwood Christian’s Will Moore (285) was the lone non-Midlands champion.
