The State’s high school spring sports Athlete of the Week (3.14.22)
Editor’s note: A technical issue on our end affected this week’s voting. We’ve therefore decided to declare several winners.
Wynn Ravan (Spring Valley baseball), Elle Eastwood (River Bluff River Bluff lacrosse), Riley Ford (Lexington softball) and Charlie Godwin (River Bluff boys soccer) are The State’s spring sports Athletes of the Week.

Athlete of the week: The nominees
▪ Qwinton Bennett, Dutch Fork: In 13 plate appearances, senior hit .500 with a homer, two triples and drove in nine runs.
▪ Precious Bross, Irmo softball: Shortstop went 6-for-7 with two doubles, a triple and a grand slam and nine RBIs in two games last week.
▪ Elle Eastwood, River Bluff lacrosse: Sophomore had three goals and two assists in a win over Lexington. For the season, she has 25 goals in six games.
▪ BJ Ethridge, Brookland-Cayce baseball: Pitcher allowed one hit with seven strikeouts over five innings in 12-2 win over rival Airport. He also was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
▪ Riley Ford, Lexington softball: Improved to 6-0 after a pair of wins last week. She struck out 34 batters in 15 innings, including 23 in a 10-inning victory over Class 4A champion Lugoff-Elgin.
▪ Charlie Godwin, River Bluff boys soccer: Gators goalkeeper recorded a pair of shutouts in 170 minutes in victories over Spring Valley (overtime) and Cardinal Newman.
▪ Michael Moran, Hammond lacrosse: Had six goals and two assists in wins over Lexington and AC Flora last week. In five games this season, he has 16 goals and 11 assists.
▪ Wynn Ravan, Spring Valley baseball: Picked up a pair of saves, striking out six, allowing no hits in four innings pitched.
▪ Davis Rivers, AC Flora baseball: Pitcher moved to 2-0 on the season with a win over Dutch Fork, allowing one run, five hits and striking out five. For the year, he is 2-0 with a 0.80 ERA
▪ Will Stines, Camden baseball: In three games, he was 8-for-9 with five singles, two doubles, a triple and scored four runs. He also picked up the win in Saturday’s 9-2 victory over Lugoff-Elgin, allowing one earned run, three hits in six innings.
▪ Carlos Vasquez, Gray Collegiate soccer: Sophomore had game-winning goal in overtime against Dreher on Tuesday. He has four goals in six games this season.
