Midlands Top 10: The best high school softball teams in the area for 2022 are ...
The high school softball season across South Carolina is under way. To help you keep up with the season, The State is releasing its inaugural Midlands Top 10 power rankings for the season. Records are as of March 27.
1. Lexington (8-0) — The Wildcats are loaded and experienced. Sarah Gordon, Peri Rouillard and Riley Ford have been outstanding.
2. Swansea (8-0-1) — Coach Marty Mack has the Tigers rolling early. Aaliyah Felder has been solid at the plate.
3. White Knoll (7-4) — Senior Alexis Winters has been a starter since the seventh grade. He has three home runs on the season.
4. Gray Collegiate (10-3) — Brooke Tranum leads an explosive offense while Taylor Corley and Madoxx Long have been strong on the mound.
5. Gilbert (7-1) — The Indians have a chance to be a contender in Class 3A.
6. Lugoff-Elgin (7-4) — Defending Class 4A state champs had to replace several pieces from last year but have held up against a challenging schedule.
7. Ridge View (7-0) — Kristin Robertson and Kiyah Mayes lead an explosive offense.
8. Blythewood (8-2) — The Bengals have won five in a row since a loss to Lexington. Lauren Hardy has been good on the mound and at the plate.
9. Irmo (7-1-1) — The Yellow Jackets have averaged double figures in the early going. The schedule does get a little bit harder going forward.
10. Westwood (7-3) — Hayden Blalock is batting over .700 on the season with two home runs. Koreena Scott has an ERA less than 1.00.
Three games to watch this week
Tuesday
▪ Chapin at White Knoll — Lexington looks to be the top team in Region 5-5A, but the winner of this one takes the inside track to finishing in the No. 2 spot.
▪ Ridge View at Blythewood — This will be the Blazers’ toughest test to date. Blythewood has fared well in the early season and will be at home.
Thursday
▪ Westwood at Lugoff-Elgin — These teams play twice this week. The Redhawks split with A.C. Flora last week while the Demons defeated Dreher twice.
