Lexington’s Kenny Kwizera and Brookland-Cayce’s Kim Neely are The State’s spring sports Athletes of the Week.

This week’s nominees

Sheldon Coffman, Dreher baseball: Coffman won the MVP of the Richland-Kershaw Classic. In three wins, Coffman went 3-for-5 with five RBIs. In the championship against Mid-Carolina, he went 2-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs in the 9-6 victory.

Zac Cowan, Blythewood baseball: Cowan was 6-for-10 with two home runs, three doubles and picked up a save in leading the Bengals to the S.C. Diamond Invitational title with a 4-0 record. In the championship game with Chapin, Cowan went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs in the 14-1 victory.

Zach Cowart, River Bluff baseball: Cowart was named the MVP as the Gators won their second straight Forest Acres Classic. He pitched a 4-hit shutout in a 2-0 victory over host A.C. Flora. He struck out nine and didn’t allow a walk in seven innings. He collected two hits on the week.

Cannon Dorsey, Hammond baseball: The Skyhawks went 2-2 in the Forest Acres Classic and Dorsey was a big reason why. In the four games, Dorsey went 7-for-13 with three doubles, a home run and five RBIs.

Levi Dunn, White Knoll baseball: Dunn pitched the Timberwolves to a 2-1 victory over Cardinal Newman. He allowed one unearned run on eight hits with a walk and eight strikeouts.

John Allen Forrester, Airport baseball: The senior won one game on the mound and saved another as the Eagles clinched the Region 5-4A championship. Forrester recorded a save with three strikeouts in one inning during a 4-2 victory over South Aiken. He later pitched a seven-inning shutout with seven strikeouts and one hit allowed in an 8-0 win over the Thoroughbreds. He also finished the week 4-for-12 at the plate.

Katie Frye, Hammond soccer: The senior forward tallied five goals on seven shots and added an assist in the Skyhawks’ 12-0 victory over Trinity Collegiate.

Kenny Kwizera, Lexington soccer: The Wildcats earned a pair of 4-2 wins to capture the Joy Cup on Saturday over Fort Dorchester and Spring Valley. The junior tallied a total of four goals and two assists in the victories..

Minor Moran, Blythewood soccer: Moran was big in the three wins to help the Bengals claim the Nike Palmetto Crescent Cup title. He didn’t allow a goal in a 3-0 win over Sumter, a 4-0 win over Ashley Ridge then in a 0-0 decision against Cardinal Newman in the title match.

Kim Neely, Brookland-Cayce soccer: In three wins last week, the junior scored five goals and assisted on seven others to improve the Bearcats to 16-4 on the season. Neely had four goals and four assists in a 10-0 win over Orangeburg-Wilkinson, two assists in a 3-1 win over Strom Thurmond and a goal and an assist in a 4-1 victory over Hartsville.

Jackson Thomas, Brookland-Cayce baseball: Thomas did it at the plate and on the mound to lead the Bearcats to a 3-0 record in the S.C. Diamond Invitational. He earned two saves with five innings pitched in wins over Lexington and Berkeley. He allowed two hits with four strikeouts and no earned runs. At the plate, he was 5-for-8 with a home run and seven RBIs.
