Who’s in, who’s out? The playoff picture for Midlands soccer teams in final week
The high school soccer season across South Carolina is winding down. Here is a look at playoff scenarios for area teams. The S.C. High School League playoffs begin next week with SCISA postseason starting the following week.
Girls Soccer
——Class 5A——
Region 4: Blythewood has won the region. Spring Valley (5-2) is second and will finish there if it beats Ridge View on Thursday or RV loses to Northwestern on Wednesday. RV (3-3) is third but can finish second if it beats Northwestern and SV.
Region 5: Seedings are set in the region. Chapin (7-0) is region champs. River Bluff is second, Lexington third and White Knoll fourth.
——Class 4A——
Region 4: A.C. Flora (6-0) wins region by beating Lugoff-Elgin on Tuesday and Dreher (5-1) on Thursday. Dreher can win the region if it wins final two and Flora loses both. The third and final spot from the region will likely come down to the Lugoff-Elgin (3-3) and Irmo (2-5) match on Thursday. Only three teams from the region make the playoffs.
——Class 3A——
Region 4: Mid-Carolina has won the region and Lower Richland also has wrapped up a playoff spot.
Region 5: Gilbert (8-0) wins the region by beating Brookland-Cayce on Tuesday or Orangeburg-Wilkinson. BC (7-2) can win a share of region by beating Gilbert and the Indians losing to O-W. Fox Creek is third and Strom Thurmond is fourth.
Region 6: Camden (5-0) leads the region and has three matches left. Bulldogs clinch the region outright by winning one of the final three matches.
——Class 2A——
Region 3: Gray Collegiate (10-0) has won the region. The rest of the playoff teams from the region are Newberry, Batesburg-Leesville and Columbia.
——SCISA——
3A: Hammond (8-0) has won the region and Cardinal Newman has wrapped up second. Heathwood Hall needs to win its matches this week to earn a playoff spot.
2A: Northside Christian is second in its region and should make the postseason.
Boys Soccer
——Class 5A——
Region 4: Spring Valley (5-1) is in first place and wins the region by beating Northwestern and Ridge View this week. Blythewood (5-2) is second and needs to beat Northwestern and SV lose both matches to win the region. If two teams finish tied, a tiebreaker will determine top spot in the region. Rock Hill (5-3) will finish third and Northwestern fourth seed from the region.
Region 5: River Bluff and Chapin are tied for the lead with one match left. RB has White Knoll on Tuesday and Chapin has Lexington on Wednesday. If RB or Chapin both win or lose, the tiebreaker will determine No. 1 seed. Lexington (4-3) is third seed. Dutch Fork (1-6) would be the fourth seed by beating WK (0-6)
——Class 4A——
Region 4: A.C. Flora (8-0) can win the region with wins over Lugoff-Elgin on Wednesday and Dreher (8-1) on Friday. The Blue Devils can win the region by beating Flora and a Falcons’ loss to L-E. If two teams finish tied, a tiebreaker will determine No. 1 seed. Irmo (4-4) is third seed with a win or L-E loss this week. Only three teams from the region make the playoffs.
——Class 3A——
Region 4: Mid-Carolina has clinched the region title. Chester (4-3) is second followed by Lower Richland (3-3) and Fairfield Central.
Region 5: Brooklynd-Cayce (9-0) has won the region and Gilbert (7-2) is second. The final two spots will come down between Swansea (4-4) and Fox Creek (4-5).
——Class 2A——
Region 3: Gray Collegiate (10-0) has won the region. The next four teams, Saluda, Columbia, Newberry and Batesburg-Leesville, finished in a tie at 5-5. Goal differential tiebreakers decided seeding with Newberry No. 2, Columbia No. 3 and Saluda No. 4.
——SCISA——
3A: Cardinal Newman, Heathwood Hall and Ben Lippen have clinched playoff spots. The Cardinals can win the regional by defeating Heathwood on Wednesday.
