Wednesday roundup: Lexington baseball, Chapin boys soccer wrap up region top spots

A look at some of the highlights from Wednesday’s high school sports action in the Midlands:

Lexington baseball clinched the Region 5-5A championship with a 7-1 win over Chapin. The Wildcats are 10-1 in the region with one game left Friday. Cole Long got the win on the mound and LAndon Knight was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Chapin boys soccer wrapped up the top seed in Region 5-5A with a 5-0 win over Lexington. The Eagles and River Bluff finished at 7-1 in the region but Chapin gets top seed because of goal differential.

Gray Collegiate boys soccer defeated Oceanside College, 3-1, in the battle of top ranked teams in Class 2A and 3A. Charlie Bozard had two goals for Gray.

Blythewood, the top ranked team in Class 5A baseball, defeated AC Flora, No. in 4A, 10-5, in baseball action. The Bengals have won 18 straight games headed to the postseason.

In softball, Gilbert trailed 14-0 going into the bottom of the fourth before rallying to defeat Batesburg-Leesville, 16-15, on Miley Baty’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.
