Tuesday’s Midlands playoff roundup: Lexington, Chapin baseball rally in opening games

The SC high school baseball and girls soccer playoffs kicked off Tuesday night with several Midlands teams in action.

Here are some of the highlights from Tuesday night’s action

It was a good night for Region 5-5A baseball teams as Lexington, River Bluff, Dutch Fork and Chapin all won with Lexington and Chapin notching comeback wins.

Lexington trailed 4-0 Conway going into the bottom of the fifth before scoring nine runs for the 9-4 win over the Tigers.

Chapin outlasted Carolina Forest, 6-4, in 12 innings to beat the fifth-ranked Panthers.

Hunter Phipps tossed a six-inning no-hitter in Dutch Fork’s 13-1 win over St. James.

South Carolina commit Beau Hollins tossed a complete-game four-hitter in the 4-0 win over Socastee.

Top-ranked Blythewood and AC Flora rolled in their openers. The Bengals run-ruled Nation Ford, 10-0, while the Falcons beat South Pointe, 9-3. Blythewood will host defending state champion Hillcrest on Thursday.

Brookland-Cayce, the No. 2 team in Class 3A, defeated Loris, 4-2.

LSU signee Tucker Toman homered and Dylan Richardson struck out 11 in Hammond’s 1-0 win over Trinity collegiate.

Ben Lippen defeated Cardinal Newman for the second time in a week, 6-1.

In girls soccer, Blythewood, Chapin, and Lexington, Dreher and Gray Collegiate all had shutout wins on Tuesday night.
