The State’s best: Meet the 2022 all-area high school boys tennis team

A look at The State’s Midlands all-area boys tennis team for the 2022 season.

All-Area Boys Tennis Team

Hampton Cope, Lexington: Senior qualified for state singles tournament and also was selected to play in the North-South tennis matches.

Achilles Hahan Dreher: Blue Devils senior was the team’s No. 2 player and helped Dreher to 4A Lower State championship appearance. He also qualified for the state singles tournament.

Rick Hewitt, AC Flora: Hewitt missed the first three weeks with injury but was 9-3, an all-region selection, qualified for the state singles tournament and was picked to play in North-South tennis matches.

Sampras Perry, River Bluff: Senior went 15-3 and was selected to play in North-South tennis matches. Gators advanced to 5A Lower State final.

David Pope, Camden: Sophomore was 11-3 on season and Region 5-3A Player of the Year. Bulldogs advanced to Class 3A tennis semifinals.

Nakul Ranjith Irmo: Freshman was 9-2, qualified for the state singles tournament and was Region 4-4A Player of the Year.

Poojith Reddy, Spring Valley: Junior was 18-2 this season with both losses coming in a tiebreaker. Qualified for state individual tournament.

Rintaro Saito, River Bluff: Sophomore went 14-3 and was Region 5-5A Player of the Year. Won the consolation bracket at state singles tournament. Gators advanced to 5A Lower State final.

Owen Stikeleather, Brookland-Cayce: Was the Bearcats’ No. 1 player and state singles qualifier.

Caspar Tarr, Dreher: Was the Blue Devils’ No. 1 singles player and helped the team to a 4A Lower State championship appearance. Also qualified for state singles tournament.
